Barack, Barukh, Barry, ha‑gafen - *Not Corrected*

Growing up I heard many Jewish prayers.

They all began the same,

“Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu Melekh ha‑olam”

which means “Blessed are You, LORD, our God, King of the universe”.

The common favorite prayer, if such a thing can exist, is that for the drinking of wine. It ends with the passage,

“bo’re p’ri ha‑gafen”

which means, “who creates the fruit of the vine”.

A few weeks ago a humorous ditty was circulating the Internet, billed as a Jewish prayer of thanks for the election of Barack Obama.
